APSA newspaper citation in APSA format

Referencing is a way to provide evidence to support the assertions and claims in your own assignments. By citing experts in your field, you are showing your marker that you are aware of the field in which you are operating. Your citations map the space of your discipline, and allow you to navigate your way through your chosen field of study, in the same way that sailors steer by the stars. Nowadays exist plenty of referencing styles APA, APSA, Chicago, Turabian etc.

References should always be accurate, allowing your readers to trace the sources of information you have used. The best way to make sure you reference accurately is to keep a record of all the sources you used when reading and researching for an assignment.

Citations also make your writing more persuasive. Referencing a particular source could be similar and fall under one scope of requirements such as periodicals, for instance journal, newspaper, personal communication (interview), online journal and so on.

According to APSA citation guide APSA newspaper citation include the author’s name (unless anonymous), title of article, title of paper, day, month, year, and section if relevant. Do not give page numbers without also giving the edition

If print and electronic forms of the article are identical, use the print version. If electronic and print versions are not the same, and the research drew on the electronic form, the note should be as similar to the print note as possible, with the addition of the URL and the date of last access, instead of the date of publication. The date of last access is used because online materials may not be permanently available.

To simplify the citation process you may use free citation machine to create proper APSA newspaper citation. Collect elements on source and enter them following the template:

  • Newspaper title;
  • Year;
  • Article title;
  • Exact publication date;
  • URL;
  • Date of access.

For newspapers (as opposed to other types of periodicals), the date of publication is preferred to the volume/issue designation, even though newspapers have them as well.
